Pinehurst, N.C. - The Village of Pinehurst is pleased to announce the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Board, and Board of Adjustment agenda packets and supporting materials will now be available online for public review prior to these meetings.

Village staff piloted the Historic Preservation Commission meeting agenda packet for the Thursday, June 22, 2017 meeting of the commission and it is now available at www.vopnc.org/agendas. Effective for July meetings, all agendas and supporting materials will be posted the Friday prior to the Thursday board meetings.

In November 2013, the Village of Pinehurst partnered with NovusAGENDA to provide agenda automation services for all Village Council agenda packets. This was the first time agenda packet material was routinely provided for the public. After completing this process improvement, the Village received positive feedback for the effort to increase transparency and inform residents of local issues.

As part of the FY 2017 Strategic Operating Plan, Village staff evaluated alternatives to increase civic engagement by communicating information to the public in a timely and efficient manner and increasing opportunities for public input on local issues. In January, the Village Council approved a civic engagement recommendation which included expanding the agenda automation services to the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Board, and Board of Adjustment. Automating the agenda packets for these boards comes at no additional cost to the Village and allows the public to review the meeting materials in advance of the public meetings. Following the approval of the board’s minutes, they will also be posted on the same site next to the meeting date and agenda packet.

“The Village is excited to provide residents with increased transparency as we post Historic Preservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Board, and Board of Adjustment agenda packets and materials online in advance of meetings. As we considered alternative ways to engage residents in decision making, it was clear that the sooner in the decision-making process we were able to obtain that input, the better. I hope residents take advantage of this opportunity to preview agenda materials and then provide their input to these boards and commissions,” said Natalie Dean Hawkins, Assistant Village Manager.
