Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater-Main Pump Station. General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.
In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county:
The Town of Robbins had a discharge of untreated wastewater on Tuesday, November 13 at approximately 7:00AM. An estimated 6,800 gallons was discharged at the Main Pump Station, located on NC Highway 705 North close to Bear Creek. The untreated wastewater was discharged into an Bear Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin. The incident was resolved by 12:00PM.
The Main Pump Station was damaged in a flood during Hurricane Florence. The plant is currently operating on a backup bypass pump until the plant is restored. The event was triggered by a high rain event that caused moderate flooding throughout the community.
