Saturday morning multiple fire units were dispatched at 7:00 am to a reported structure fire off of NC Highway 690 at the intersection with Byrd Road east of Vass.
The first fireman on the scene confirmed that the fire involved a three-hundred-foot long by fifty-foot wide chicken barn with large rolls of hay, a tractor, and other equipment stored inside. The building was reported to be fully involved in flames.
After the collapse of the buildings structure firefighters had to reportedly remove a large amount of roofing out of the way to reach the fire underneath. A track-hoe was brought in to assist in moving the roofing out of the way and scattering the hay bales to help firefighters in fully extinguishing the blaze.
Fire units remained on the scene until just before 12:00 noon ensuring the fire had been put out.
