A man was airlifted to a Trauma Center after being pinned under a small SUV in Pinehurst Thursday afternoon.
Emergency officials were dispatched to a reported accident on Morganton Road near the Harness Track around 1:30 pm.
According to witnesses at the scene the adult male victim had been operating a maintenance golf cart when he was hit by a Dodge Durango pinning the man under the large passenger vehicle.
Fire officials were able to quickly arrive on the scene and used specialized Air Bags to raise the vehicle enough to pull the injured man free.
The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance to meet a helicopter landing zone that had been set-up inside the harness track.
Morganton Rad was closed to traffic in both directions for approximately one hour while the victim was assisted and the roadway cleared.
Responding to this accident were units with Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and Pinehurst Police Department.
In an update to this article, the victim reportedly died after arriving at UNC Chapel Hill due to results of injuries that occurred in the accident the Pinehurst Police Department has confirmed. No further details were available as the accident remained under investigation Thursday nor has law enforcement released the victims identification. Addional details should become available Friday morning according to officers.
