One person died at the scene and a second person was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Sunday morning. The accident happened just before 7:30 AM on NC 690 at the Moore County and Cumberland County line.
A Honda Accord passenger car ran off of the roadway striking a tree. The victims were initially pinned in the car until they could be extricated by emergency workers.
A helicopter from Fort Bragg landed in the middle of NC 690 to pick up the injured woman and fly her for medical treatment, but she had already been transported by an ambulance from Fort Bragg to Womack Army Medical Center for treatment according to fire officials.
NC 690 was blocked to traffic in both directions for an extended time period while the accident scene was being investigated.
The victim that died has been identified by family members as a mother of two young children, 25 year old Karlea Pressley from Spring Lake.
Responding to this accident were units with Crains Creek Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, NC State Highway Patrol, and Fort Bragg Military Police.
The accident remained under investigation by Fort Bragg Military Police as of this report.
Story Correction: Initially it was reported the victim was flown out for treatment. We were notified this evening that although the helicopter landed to transport the victim an ambulance from Fort Bragg had just transported her to Womack Army Medical Center. The aircraft came to the wreck scene but was not used to transport the victim.
