One person was airlifted and a second person was transported by ambulance after a two vehicle accident in Southern Pines Monday morning. The wreck happened on North May Street at the intersection of Yadkin Road just after 8:00 AM.
The driver of a Nissan 350 Z passenger car was reportedly thrown from his car with the vehicle landing on top of the man. Firefighters were able to quickly lift the car and remove the man from under the vehicle before transporting him by ambulance to meet a helicopter from UNC Chapel Hill at the ballfield on Morganton Road.
The driver of a Chevrolet Traverse SUV was transported from the scene by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with reported non-life threatening injuries.
May Street in Southern Pines was totally blocked to traffic in both directions for an extended time period while the injured were assisted and debris removed from the roadway.
Responding to this accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
