A pickup truck overturned on Youngs Road Sunday night while reportedly being chased down the road by another truck.
Emergency responders were dispatched just after 9:00 pm to a vehicle overturned with reports of a large crowd on the scene and that the driver had ran into the woods after flipping his pickup.
The first arriving units found a Dodge Dakota pickup overturned on its rooftop with gas leaking from the vehicle. A second vehicle involved in the wreck, a white Ford F150, was also on the scene awaiting the arrival of law enforcement.
According to police officials what began as a domestic dispute resulted in the Ford F150 chasing after the Dodge Dakota reportedly attempting to get the driver to stop. While chasing the Dodge the Ford truck hit the Dodge truck in the rear causing the driver to lose control and overturn in the 600 block of Youngs Road outside of Vass.
The driver of the Dodge had reportedly ran into the woods after wrecking due to the fact he was being chased, however he did return to the scene when law enforcement arrived. The man was not injured in the wreck and remained at the wreck location to be interviewed by deputies.
Officials stated at the scene that because of the nature of the incident it was being investigated by law enforcement as an assault rather than a vehicle accident.
The driver of the white F150 52 year old LB Horne Jr of a Haynes Road address in Lakeview was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
He was transported before a magistrate in Carthage where he was given a $10,000.00 unsecured bond with an August 22, 2017 court date.
Youngs Road was totally closed to traffic in both directions for more than two hours due to the overturned vehicle with the gas leak and the wreck investigation.
Responding tonight were units with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
