Firefighters were called to a reported possible structure fire Saturday shortly before 5:30 pm between Vass and Whispering Pines.
The first arriving emergency unit reported a chimney fire in a single story home located in the 3900 block of Vass Carthage Road.
The fire was quickly extinguished soon after firefighters arrived on the scene. After putting out the fire in the chimney responders assisted the homes residents removing the hot coals from inside of the house. Firefighters also checked to verify that there was no extension of the fire out of the chimney and into the structure.
Vass Carthage Road was temporarily blocked to traffic in both directions for approximately 30 minutes by the responding emergency apparatus. Law enforcement officers worked to direct traffic around the fire location limiting delays for drivers.
Responding today were units with Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County Public Safety, Whispering Pines Police Department, Carthage Police Department, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
