A two vehicle accident injured one person and blocked three lanes of traffic early Thursday morning in Southern Pines.
Emergency responders were called out at 5:13 am to reports of a vehicle accident on Midland Road near the intersection of NC Highway 22/Central Drive.
The accident involved a Ford passenger vehicle and an Acura passenger vehicle with the first arriving fire units reporting heavy damage to the Acura. The motor from the car was located just off of the roadway almost 50 yards from where the vehicle came to a stop at after the accident.
One adult male victim from the Acura was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Three lanes of Midland Road were blocked to traffic for an extended time period while the injured man was assisted and the large amount of debris could be removed from the roadway. Midland Road reopened to normal traffic in both directions just after 6:20 am.
Responding to this accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation as of this report.
