One person was injured and the roadway was completely blocked after a single vehicle accident Thursday evening outside of Pinehurst.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 6:41 pm to reports of a vehicle that had ran off of the road and struck a tree in the 1300 block of Linden Road near the intersection of Linden Trail.
The first arriving fire unit reported heavy damage to a Honda Accord and the driver pinned in the vehicle.
Fire and EMS worked to extricate the accident victim by cutting off part of the roof, removing the driver’s side door and lifting the dash off of the victims legs. A helicopter was initially called to assist with this incident, however when an aircraft was not immediately available the victim was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Linden Road was blocked to traffic in both directions while the injured woman was assisted and the debris was removed from the roadway. The road reopened to normal traffic just after 7:40 pm.
Responding to this incident were units with Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The cause of the single vehicle wreck remained under investigation as of this report.
