The driver of a Nissan Sentra was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Sunday afternoon outside of Carthage.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 3:44 pm to a vehicle accident near the intersection of US Highway 15-501 North and NC 24/27 East.
The first arriving emergency units reported a vehicle down an embankment stopped between a group of trees.
Fire and EMS workers were able to free the young male driver and carry him up the hill to an ambulance for transport to a landing zone that had been established to meet a helicopter at the intersection of US Highway 15-501 and Priest Hill Road. The victim was airlifted to a Trauma Center for further treatment.
One lane of US Highway 15-501 was temporarily blocked by this accident causing a slowdown for drivers passing through the area at the time of the accident
Responding this afternoon were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
This is one of three vehicle accidents in the Carthage area this afternoon. The cause of the accident remained under investigation as of this report.
