A Moore County woman was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a dump truck Tuesday afternoon between Carthage and Robbins.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 3:22 pm to a vehicle accident on NC Highway 24/27 at the intersection of Plank Road.
An accident had occurred involving a dump truck and a motorcycle with the dump truck coming to a stop on top of the motorcycle a short distance from the impact location.
The adult female motorcycle operator was laying in the middle of the roadway when responders arrived on the scene. Shortly after arriving paramedics determined that the woman was deceased.
Officials identified the accident victim as 56 year old Suzanne Star Murray from a Cameron address. Murray was reportedly a teacher with Moore County Schools at Robbins Elementary school and Elise Middle School according to Highway Patrol officials.
NC Highway 24/27 was closed to traffic in both directions for an extended time period while the investigation of the accident was conducted with drivers being detoured using other routes. The roadway was reopened to normal traffic just before 6:00 pm.
According to Highway Patrol officials the initial investigation appeared to show that the motorcycle pulled out from Plank Road in front of the oncoming dump truck driving on NC 24/27. The accident remained under investigation as of this report.
Responding to this incident were units with Robbins Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, NC Medical Examiners Office, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
