An old farmhouse was destroyed in a fire outside of Vass Monday night.
Emergency responders were called out shortly after 9:00 pm to a reported house fire on Jim S Road off of Shaw Road.
According to Cypress Pointe Fire Chief Mike Cameron firefighters could see a glow in the sky while still several miles from the scene and when the first fire units arrived at the location the single-story building was fully involved in flames.
The unoccupied home was located in a field down a narrow dirt drive several hundred feet off of a paved road requiring fire units to carefully coordinate as they drove in and out from the scene hauling equipment and water to the fire.
Although the fire was brought under control in a relatively short amount of time, firefighters remained on the scene until after 11:00 pm working to fully extinguish the burning debris from the fire.
The structure was completely destroyed in the blaze with the only thing left standing after firefighters finished pushing in the remaining pieces of the walls was a brick chimney in the center of the foundation.
Responding to this incident were units with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
The cause of the fire was not known as of this report.
