Emergency officials were called out Friday night just before 11:00 pm after an Amtrak Train had reportedly struck a person.
The accident occurred between Southern Pines and Aberdeen where the rail track runs parallel to Midway Road.
After the first emergency units reached the scene it was determined that the male victim was deceased.
Law enforcement identified the victim as 51 year old Pinebluff resident Herbert Bullard.
According to officials with the fire department it was not immediately known if the victim had been standing or sitting on the tracks when he was hit by the train.
One lane of Midway Road was partially blocked by emergency vehicles near where the trains engine had come to a stop, which was some distance from where the actual collision occurred requiring responders to access the collision location by foot and using a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Responding to this incident Friday night were units with Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Police Department, Aberdeen Police Department, and the NC State Medical Examiners office.
