A Single vehicle accident left a passenger car underwater in a small pond in lobelia Friday night.
Emergency responders were dispatched to a vehicle accident at 10:07 PM at the intersection of NC Highway 690 and Lakebay Road
A 2018 BMW M3 that was traveling towards Vass on NC Highway 690 ran off of the road landing in a small pond totally submerging the passenger car.
The two occupants of the vehicle were un-injured and were able to escape from the car before the arrival of firefighters.
According to officials at the scene, the driver stated that a deer ran in front of his vehicle causing him to lose control of the car and run off of the road before coming to a stop in the water.
One lane of NC Highway 690 was blocked for an extended time period by the responding emergency vehicles, with the roadway totally closed to traffic for a brief period while the car was pulled from the water.
Responding to the accident tonight were units with Crains Creek Fire & Rescue, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
