The driver of a passenger car was temporarily entrapped in her vehicle and the roadway was blocked following a single vehicle accident Monday morning in Southern Pines.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 10:54 am to a vehicle accident on NC Highway 22/Central Drive at the intersection with Fairway Drive.
The first arriving units found a Ford Focus passenger car leaning against a tree with the backend of the car off of the ground and the driver still inside of the vehicle.
Firefighters used braces to stabilize the car before using specialized hydraulic powered rescue tools to cut the passenger door off of the car and assist the injured woman from the vehicle.
According to officials at the scene the victim was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries reported as not life threatening.
Due to the emergency vehicles on the scene and damage to a power pole NC Highway 22 was temporarily closed to traffic in both directions while the injured woman was assisted.
Responding to this accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.
