A female driver reportedly escaped serious injury in a single vehicle accident where the car rolled over coming to a stop upside down outside of Carthage Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 1:44 pm to a single vehicle accident with the vehicle overturned and the driver possibly trapped inside on Lamms Road off of Dowd Road.
The first arriving emergency unit to reach the scene located an elderly female victim who was outside of an overturned Mercury Sable passenger car. According to responders the woman was able to climb out of a window in the car prior to their arrival at the scene.
The victim was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries reported to be not life-threatening.
One lane of Lamms Road was temporarily blocked by the responding emergency vehicles and the tow truck working to retrieve the vehicle requiring a slowdown for drivers passing through the area at the time of the accident while officials directed traffic.
Responding today were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
The cause of the incident remained under investigation as of this report, however law enforcement at the scene stated that gravel on the roadway may have played a contributing factor in the accident.
