Sheriff Ronnie Fields would like to warn citizens of a scam being sent by mail.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints of a possible scam being sent to residents in Moore County by mail. This scam consists of a letter that appears to come from the Publishers Clearing House and a check addressed to the resident.
The Publishers Clearing House will never ask anyone to pay a fee to receive a prize and will not call ahead to say you have won a prize. If you or someone you know receives a call to send money in order to collect a prize, hang up and report it to the Federal Trade Commission. You can report the information through their website at www.ftc.gov . Examples of the letter and check can be viewed on the attachments.
If you have any questions concerning a possible scam, please call the Moore County Sheriff’s Office at 910-947-2931.
