Sheriff Neil Godfrey would like to make everyone aware of several unconfirmed reports of suspicious persons attempting to stop travelers around the Vass area of the County.
The commentaries originated from post made to Facebook; as of yet, the department has not received any official reports. The Sheriff’s Office and the Vass Police Department have been investigating and increased their patrols in the area.
Sheriff Godfrey is reminding everyone to remain vigilant, not pull over for strangers and to contact the Sheriff’s Office for assistance. Anyone with information on these reports, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (910) 947-2931 or our tip line at (910) 947-4444.
Editor’s Note - We began receiving reports about this several days ago. We have been in touch with law enforcement and monitoring closely, however this has not been posted before now because there have not been any police reports filed by anyone who has seen this vehicle or been accosted by them. So far the ONLY reports are post made to Facebook. If anyone does have info on an event that happened they should contact law enforcement immediately. We will continue to monitor this situation and update readers as more information becomes available. It is always better to be safe than sorry, so all residents are urged to use extra caution when driving in the Vass and Cameron area.
