Samantha Nacole Bryant, the mother of Rylan Ott, was sentenced Monday to 19 - 32 months in prison for allowing the toddler to wander away and drown in a pond about a half mile from his Moore County home.
Visiting Superior Court Judge Mary Ann Tally sentenced Bryant, 31 years old, to a minimum prison term of one year and seven months and a maximum term of two years and eight months. She was given credit for the 14 months of time served in the Moore County jail while awaiting trial, so she could be released in a matter of months.
Moore County Prosecutor Peter Strickland had argued for consecutive sentences totaling not less than four years or more than six and a half.
Bryant still faces misdemeanor child abuse and other charges stemming from a fight in October 2015. She is due back in court Wednesday.
