Law enforcement officers are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday morning in the Westmoore area of Moore County.
Emergency units were dispatched just after 10:15 am to a gunshot victim who was located inside of a truck at the intersection of NC Highway 705 and Chrisco Road.
While responders were still on the way to the highway intersection the shooter in this incident is reported to have called 911 telling dispatchers the house he was located at. In addition the man is reported to have told 911 operators that the shooting was done in “self-defense”.
A 35 year old man, who was reportedly shot with a .45 caliber handgun, was transported by ambulance from the intersection of NC Highway 705 and Chrisco Road to the ballfield at Westmoore Elementary School. A helicopter from Carolina Air Care transported the seriously injured man to a Trauma Center in Chapel Hill.
Law enforcement officers stated that the shooting did not occur at the intersection, but rather at another nearby location. The incident was not a random act of violence but rather involved two individuals involved in a dispute.
A Seagrove man is in custody for this shooting charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Responding to this incident were units with Westmoore Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Robbins Police Department, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies and detectives with the sheriff’s department continue to investigate the shooting as of this report.
