One person was taken into custody in the parking lot of a local convenience store in southern Moore County around 12 noon Wednesday after a high speed police chase that started in Richmond County.
According to Richmond County Sheriff James Clemmons, deputies with the sheriff’s department were conducting a drug investigation in the Hoffman area of Richmond County when a black male fled from officers at a high rate of speed driving towards Moore County.
The suspect led officers on a chase heading north on US Highway 1 into Moore County before ultimately turning onto Bachelor Farm Road between Pinebluff and Aberdeen cutting across to Roseland Road.
The suspect and the white Toyota Avalon he was operating were cornered by law enforcement in the parking lot of the Macs Convenience Store located at the intersection of Roseland Road and Sandpit Road where the suspect was taken into custody after his vehicle struck a deputies vehicle.
As he attempted to elude officers the suspect was reportedly seen by civilian witnesses and law enforcement officers throwing numerous items from the vehicle. After the suspect was arrested officers from Moore County and Richmond County went back and searched along the roadsides where the chase occurred for evidence associated with this incident.
Sheriff Clemmons identified the suspect arrested as 22 year old Rondell Shaquane McNair from a Fayetteville NC address. McNair was charged with felony flee to elude arrest, speeding, driving while license revoked, driving left of center, aggressive driving, careless & reckless driving, litering, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
McNair was transported to the Richmond County Jail where he was held under a $150,000.00 secure bond.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
Responding today were officers with Richmond County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Pinebluff Police Department, and Aberdeen Police Department. The NC State Highway Patrol responded to investigate the minor collision between the suspects vehicle and the deputies car.
