The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Wayne Thomas Johnson, 72 years of age, with no known address, for armed robbery.
On February 7, 2018, at approximately 1:00 pm, employees of the PNC Bank, 1715 U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines, reported that a robbery had occurred at the bank.
Following an investigation, and mutual effort between the Southern Pines Police Department, Aberdeen Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an arrest was made at approximately 3:00 pm on February 7, 2018, when Wayne Thomas Johnson was located as a passenger in a taxi inside the parking area of Pinecrest Plaza, 10205 Highway 15/501 in Southern Pines, NC.
At the time of his arrest, Wayne Thomas Johnson had multiple items of evidence in his possession definitively associating him with the robbery that had taken place.
Wayne Thomas Johnson appeared before a Moore County Magistrate, and was subsequently incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on 02/13/18.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
