Officials are investigating a death after a person was found deceased in a car in the woods at the end of a residential road in Southern Pines Sunday.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 8:00 pm after a person reported finding a car in the woods with a person possibly deceased at the end of South Gains Street in Southern Pines.
Law enforcement, fire and EMS units arrived on the scene within minutes of being dispatched and confirmed that the person in the car was deceased.
As of this report law enforcement officers with Southern Pines Police Department had blocked off the area around a black passenger car with crime scene tape as detectives began their investigation.
The car was parked on a dirt road several hundred feet from the end of the paved road with nothing around it.
Officials have not released the identification or the cause of death for the person at this time, however Police Chief Bob Temme confirmed it was a deceased female.
Temme went on to say “At this time, there is no indication that that there needs to be any heightened concern for the community, and we are not asking that they change in their daily lifestyles.”
Responding to this incident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.
