What started out as an armed robbery of a Dollar General and the carjacking of an innocent bystander resulted in a three-county police chase that ended on the backroads of Fort Bragg Tuesday morning.
According to authorities at the scene, law enforcement in Harnett County were notified at 8:45 am of an armed robbery and carjacking at the Dollar General located at 19805 NC Highway 27.
The suspect had reportedly stolen 20 packs of cigarettes around 8:45 am while brandishing a knife, before he then stole a 2005 Dodge Dakota outside the store, authorities said.
A vehicle chase began of a 2005 Dodge Dakota in Harnett County before entering Moore County in the Cameron area and drivng into Vass. The driver than proceeded out NC 690 to Morrison Bridge Road where he turned onto Fort Bragg and into Hoke County.
On Fort Bragg the chase turned off of the paved roads and onto back gravel roads where the driver eventually wrecked on the side of Chicken Road near the intersection with Plank Road where 28 year old Brandon Raul Navarro of Sanford, was taken into custody.
Participating in todays chase and arrest were units with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Vass Police Department, NC State Highway Patrol and the Fort Bragg Police.
The robbery and carjacking remained under investigation by Harnett County authorities as of this report.
