On September 4th, 2018 deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint in reference to several Industrial Hemp Plants being stolen from a field in the Eagle Springs area of Moore County.

During the course of the investigation, Preston Omar Cole and Lucas Brant Phillips were identified as suspects in this case.

Hemp, or industrial hemp, typically found in the northern hemisphere, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products.

It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber.

Arrested were:

Preston Omar Cole, 28 years of age
250 Leak Road, Jackson Springs, NC
Charges: Larceny of Ungathered Crops and Injury to Trees/Crops/Lands.
Bond: $3,000.00 – Unsecured

Lucas Brant Phillips, 19 years of age
439 Winford Road, Eagle Springs, NC
Charges: Larceny of Ungathered Crops and Injury to Trees/Crops/Lands.
Bond: $3,000.00 – Secured

The suspects are scheduled to appear in Moore County District Court on September 25th, 2018.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
