A brief standoff between a man and local police ended without injury Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen.
Law enforcement were dispatched to the Park At Clearwater Apartments on Saunders Boulevard for a reported welfare check on a man who was reported to possibly be armed.
Due to prior experiences with the person involved as well as statements made today officers gathered at the location and made a plan before proceeding forward.
After evacuating nearby apartments, officers approached the apartment where the man lives. At one point after officials were able to make contact by telephone the man emerges from the apartment and is quickly taken into custody by law enforcement officers without injury before he can re-enter the apartment.
The entrance and exit to the apartment complex were briefly blocked to traffic by law enforcement during the incident to ensure the protection of the public.
Officials with the Aberdeen Police Department have confirmed that the custody of the man, who is an active duty soldier, was transferred from local law enforcement to military officials this afternoon and that the man was transported back to Fort Bragg.
In addition to taking the man into custody Thursday, officers also obtained a search warrant for the home and removed several firearms from the residence.
