The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of a West End man Friday for the following charges:
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession with the Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana (2 counts), Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (2 counts), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Resisting a Public Officer, Felony Probation Violation (2 counts), Felony Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession with the Intent Manufacture Sell/Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance (2 counts), Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Trafficking of Heroin (2 counts)
and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Jonathan Dynell Jones, 27 years of age of West End, North Carolina for the offenses listed above. Officers observed Jonathan Dynell Jones on Haines Court in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Jonathan Dynell Jones was known to officers from previous arrests/contacts and was known to have outstanding warrants for his arrest obtained by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon observing officers, Jonathan Dynell Jones fled on foot while clenching his pants pocket, or attempting to remove an item from his pants pocket, believed by the pursuing officer to be a firearm. Jonathan Dynell Jones was taken into custody in the area of Fire Lane.
At the time of his arrest, Jonathan Dynell Jones was found to be in possession of marijuana, digital scales, Percocet, $872.00 in U.S. Currency and a stolen .40 caliber Berretta semi-automatic pistol.
The Southern Pines Police Department maintains an outstanding working relationship with our Federal law enforcement partners, and will be seeking additional Federal charges and Federal prosecution of Jonathan Dynell Jones to further protect our community.
In addition, the Southern Pines Police Department would like to recognize the work done by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office who were responsible for the issuance of the arrest warrants that were the foundation which initiated the investigation that subsequently resulted in the arrest of Jonathan Dynell Jones.
Jonathan Dynell Jones appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was subsequently incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Center under a $760,000.00 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on October 23, 2018.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
