A Cameron man was charged early Saturday morning after a vehicle accident that resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another.
The NC State Highway Patrol charged Travis Richard Odonnell, 36 years old from a Lizzie Jeter Lane address in Cameron with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, and unsafe movement.
According to officials at the scene the accident took place as a passenger car was traveling northbound on US Highway 1, when the pickup truck driven by ODonnell came off of North May Street and ran a stop sign striking the car in the side before both vehicles came to a stop in the southbound lanes of US Highway 1.
24 year old Shamiya Jennings of Sanford died at the scene of the accident. A second victim was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
ODonnell who was not injured in the accident was transported to the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage where he was held under a $410,000.00 secure bond. His first scheduled court date is on October 23, 2018
According to Sheriff Neil Godfrey, although all of the complete details were not immediatly available Travis ODonnell is also wanted by the US Marshals Service for a warrant that was issued on December 20, 2017 for failure to appear in court. This will also impact his ability to be released from custody.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
