An Aberdeen man has been charged for the death of 72 year old Evon Hughes from Southern Pines following a near head-on collision south of Pinebluff in the early morning hours New Year’s Day.
The accident between a Toyota Camry and an Infinity QX56 occurred on January 1, 2019 just before 3:00 am on US Highway 1 at the intersection of Addor Road.
43 year old James Antonio Carter from an Ashley Drive address in Aberdeen was charged by the NC State Highway Patrol Thursday January 4, 2019 with Felony Death By Motor Vehicle. In addition Carter was charged with Driving While Impaired, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revokes, Stop Sign violation, and a Seatbelt violation.
After appearing before a magistrate Carter was transported to the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage where he was held under a $100,000.00 secured bond. The first scheduled court date to hear his case is on January 24, 2019.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
