(Carthage) On December 29th, 2018, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting that occurred at 118 Helen Lane in Cameron. Cameron Police Department assisted with response to the incident and upon arrival at the scene two victims were found to be suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital in serious condition.
During the course of the investigation Detectives with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office identified George Bernhardt Rodrick Jr., 37 years old from Fayetteville, North Carolina as a suspect. With the assistance of the Fayetteville Police Department, he was located and taken into custody.
On December 29th, 2018 Rodrick was transported to the Moore County Detention Center and charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and two counts of attempted First-Degree Murder. He was confined to the Moore County Detention Center with no bond pending his first appearance in Moore County District Court on January 23rd, 2018.
On December 30th, 2018, one victim identified as Quentin Orlando Belk, 32 years of age, succumbed to his injuries he sustained in the shooting and died at UNC Hospital. Belk was a resident of Moore County. The other victim has been treated for injuries and since been released from the hospital.
On January 3rd, 2019 Detectives with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert Lee Gillespie, 54 years of age, of Cameron. Gillespie was charged with one count of Murder and one count of Possession of Firearm by Felon. Gillespie was transported to the Moore County Detention Center and confined under with no bond. Gillespie is scheduled to appear in Moore County District Court on January 23rd, 2019.
On January 3rd, 2019, charges against George Bernhardt Rodrick Jr. were upgraded to Murder. He remains in the Moore County Detention Center held under no bond. Rodrick is scheduled to next appear in Moore County District Court on January 23rd, 2019.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
