According to Moore County School Police Chief Arthur Frye a suspicious bag was being managed by law enforcement officials Friday morning at the Moore County Schools Central Office building in Carthage.
The facility had been completely evacuated of all staff members and a Bomb Squad with the NC State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist. Both entrances to the building had been blocked by law enforcement at US 15-501.
Fully suited bomb technicians could be seen entering the front of the Central Office building front doors.
Moore County Schools Superintendent Robert P. “Bob” Grimesey, Jr. remained at the site working with law enforcement to manage the incident.
Chief Frye stated just after 11:30 am that it was determinded that the bag was safe after it had been x-rayed and examined by the bomb squad and it was determined to contain the contents of a students book bag.
According to the Chief what started the incident was after an unknown black bag without markings was found around 7:45 am that had not been previously seen where it was located.
Responding Friday morning were units with the Moore County Schools Police, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Carthage Police Department, and the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
