Sandhills Tree 300x250

To our many dedicated and loyal readers and friends, we wanted to take a minute to communicate with you about some of the things that have transpired in our personal lives and in our business lives over these last few weeks.

As many of you may have heard Aberdeen times founder and editor Billy Marts experienced a significant medical issue over the previous month and spent three weeks on a ventilator in ICU.

Although Billy is home now and Beth is taking very good care of him there still physical therapy and other recovery that is necessary before things can be back to where they were for us and the business we love so much.

Part of this process for us has been an evaluation of where Aberdeen Times stands, what our readers enjoy reading, what works and what doesn't. After much heartfelt thought and many, many long conversations we have made the decision to take Aberdeen Times back to the basics that helped us found it all…. covering the local news as it is happening, to the very best of our ability.

Therefore, we are taking everything offline as of today and will not be posting anything on any new events until April 2nd of this year (about two weeks from now). This gives Billy the chance to continue his at home therapy while our web staff focuses on returning our website to the basics.

When we come back online the morning of April 2nd will be back to focusing on news… our front page news, local news, accidents, fires, local crime, education news health & wellness, obituaries and other key areas, All of the non-news topics that were not part of the original Aberdeen Times are going to be dropped for now so that we may focus on what we feel is important. As time goes by we will continue to assess and look at adding additional sections back in the future as we hear from readers, however for the present we feel this is the strongest move for our business, for ourselves and for our readers.

We cannot thank you all enough for the ongoing support and the love that has been shown to our family we hope you will understand this decision and realize that in a couple short weeks we will be back stronger and better than ever, bringing you the local news that you want and need.

After working the last six years to try and help so many people we have had several others ask what they can now do to help Billy and Beth  overcome the many obstacles in front of them. At the suggestion of a longtime friend and AT fan we have established a Go fund me page to help Billy and Beth meet some of the tens of thousands of dollars in expenses that have been incurred. Although we are just happy to have you as a reader neighbor and friend anyone who feels moved to do so may make a donation by going to the Go Fund Me page at the link below. $1.00, $5, $10 or more.... anything that someone can afford would, of course, be greatly appreciated. Of course, your ongoing continuous prayers and positive thoughts mean the world to us all!

We look forward to being back online bringing you the breaking news as it happens in a very short time period and thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

The Marts Family

PS - donations may also be mailed to AT at PO box 546 Aberdeen NC 28315

Again, thank you for your thoughts and prayers as they truly mean the world to Beth and Billy right now.
