The Carolina Brotherhood Ride is an annual cycling event made up of firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel from the Carolinas (both North and South Carolina) that ride together each year in the name of fallen brothers and sisters from the Carolinas.
The 2018 ride began on Monday and continues through this coming Saturday with the riders passing through Moore County today.
This year they are pedaling close to 600 miles from Moncks Corner SC to Pineville NC over a 6 day period to provide emotional and financial support for the families of those Carolina heroes who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The 2018 ride honors 17 of their Brothers and Sisters lost in the line of duty in 2016 including Whispering Pines Fire Lieutenant Donald Reid Key.
After a short stop to eat lunch at Sandhills Community College around 12:00 noon, the 30 riders and their support team made their way to the Whispering Pines Fire Department where they met with family members of Lieutenant Key as well as other members of the community.
After a short break the group continued the ride through Carthage headed to their next stopping point in Highfalls.
