Since 1986, Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care has been working to alleviate hunger and financial strains of struggling households in Moore County. Each year, the Coalition provides food to almost 7,000 residents, including thousands of children who might otherwise go hungry. On March 3, 2019 the Coalition will host an Empty Bowls event from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Country Club of Whispering Pines to help raise awareness and funds to fight hunger in Moore County.
Empty Bowls is an international grass roots movement started by the Imagine/RENDER group in 1990. Today Empty Bowls events are held by nonprofits across the country. Although the events vary, each features a simple meal of soup as well as commemorative bowls to help attendees remember the empty bowls of the food insecure in their community.
Sandhills/Moore Coalition’s Empty Bowls event will feature a variety of soups and desserts from area vendors as well as live music by Rich and Linda Angstreich and a pottery demonstration by Ann Jorgensen of Raven Pottery.
Tickets for adults start at $20.00 per person. Children 10-15 years old are only $8.00 each and children under 9 years old are free. Some tickets include a commemorative pottery bowl for attendees to keep. A variety of sponsorships are also available. Tickets and further information are available at www.sandhillscoalition.org by calling (910) 693-1600, option 5.
Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care was established by twelve area churches to coordinate available resources and assistance provided to Moore County families in need. Today over seventy churches as well as businesses, individuals, and civic groups throughout the community help fulfill the Coalition's mission.
