David Green Bobbitt, age 91 of Aberdeen, passed away July 13, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice House.
Services were conducted at 11:00AM at Page Memorial United Methodist Church in Aberdeen with Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Interment followed at Bethesda Cemetery. Family members received guests in the church Fellowship Hall prior to the service from 10:00AM-10:45AM.
A lifelong native of Aberdeen, David was the son of the late Adolphus and Nellie Castevens Bobbitt. A graduate of Aberdeen High School, he was a veteran of the US Army Air Force during World War II. He was a supervisor with Aberdeen Packing Co. for 37 years followed by employment with the Department of Corrections at McCain and in transportation with Carolina Eye Association before his retirement in 2001.
Mr. Bobbitt was a faithful member of Page Memorial United Methodist Church for 82 years having served on the Administrative Board; Sunday School Superintendent; Board of Trustees and the Methodist Men’s Organization. He served on the Executive Committee of Boy Scouts Troop 68 and Aberdeen Middle School Advisory Council. He also was a dedicated member of the Aberdeen Lions Club for more than 40 years. He was presented Life Membership in the International Association of Lions Club in recognition of outstanding service.
David was a devoted family man as husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was deeply loved by all his family and step-family. Though he was a kind, quiet and a humble man he did not hesitate to give his firm opinions!
While he was able, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, volunteering at church functions and two days a week with the International Food Pantry.
For the past 2 years Mr. Bobbitt was lovingly cared for by the nursing staff at Kingswood Nusing Center including doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, office personnel and other supportive employees. They became like family to him.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents was his beloved wife of 49 years, Lela “Bobbie” Dunn Bobbitt; his son, David Lawrence Bobbitt; his daughter, Barbara Bobbitt Williams; brothers, Walter and Talmadge Bobbitt; sister, Margaret B. Tarlton; and step-granddaughter, Jennifer Callahan.
Memories of David will be cherished by his devoted wife of 17 years, “Boo” Simmons Bobbitt; grandson, Randy Williams of Raleigh; sisters, Katherene B. Collins of Albemarle; Sue B. Adams of Greensboro and Carol B. Wright and her husband, Walter of Aberdeen; also son-in-law, Ronnie Williams of Aberdeen; step-grandsons, Rodney Williams and Ronnie Williams, Jr., both of Aberdeen; step-daughters, Judith S. Callahan of Marston, Barbara S. Hunter (Frank Rockhold) of Cary, Patricia S. Overton of Aberdeen and Pamela S. Clark (Greg) of West End; 15 step-grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
