He started his career in the furniture industry working at his grandfather’s furniture factory, Sandhill Furniture Corporation, and remained with the company through it’s transition to Stanley Furniture, working there until his retirement. He was an early member of the West End Volunteer Fire Department and remained active there for many years. A lover of antiques, he opened an antique shop, “Poor Richard’s Antiques”, and ran it during his off hours.
