(Raleigh) – North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) announced an agreement on next year’s budget total. Expenditures for 2019-20 will total just over $24 billion, a 3.45 percent increase from last year’s budget total.
On March 10, 2019, the Southern Pines Police Department arrested a sixteen (16) year old male, who was charged for the offenses of Robbery, Robbery with a Firearm, Larceny (2 counts), Possession of Marijuana and Resisting Arrest.
(Carthage) - According to a study released this week by Carolina Public Press, Moore County ranks high in its sexual assault conviction rate. Court data from across the state was analyzed covering court cases filed and disposed from 2014 2018. The study found that the statewide conviction rate for sexual assault was 24.4%. Moore County is in the top tier of District Attorney’s Offices with conviction rates at 42.8%.
(Carthage) - On March 18th, 2019, Deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the Carthage area of Moore County in reference to a driving/traffic violation. As a result of the traffic stop, deputies seized: 57.8 grams of Methamphetamine, two grams of Heroin, one gram of Marijuana, Items of Drug Paraphernalia, concealed weapon (knife/cleaver) and $212.00 in U.S. Currency. The total street value of the seized drugs is approximately $7,076.00.
The Sandhills Patriots seek youth players ages 7 thru 12 to fill its three tackle football teams’ rosters. Tryouts for the 2019 fall season will be Saturday, March 30th from 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. at Pinecrest High School's practice football field.
