| Vehicle Overturns In Wreck Outside Pinehurst Tuesday Morning | |

A single vehicle accident sent one person to the hospital by ambulance outside Pinehurst Tuesday morning. The vehicle ran off of the road and reportedly overturned just before 6:00 AM on Foxfire Road just off of Linden Road. Responding were units with the Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Pinehurst Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol. |

Break In Montgomery County Water System Robbins Area Residents Asked To Conserve Water |

A water main break in Montgomery County has caused the shutdown of its water system. Some people in Montgomery County are reported to already be without water. Water coming into the Robbins system from Montgomery County has been turned off; however the water tanks in the town are full, so residents should be good for a couple days if all of the systems work properly. In addition to residents that are on the Robbins water system, this water outage also affects approximatly 20 homes on the Moore County water system as well. All water customers have been made aware of the situation according to staff with the Moore County system. The earliest projected repair time is sometime tomorrow morning. An automated reverse 911 telephone alert has gone out to the Robbins area about the problem asking residents to conserve water. |

| Pinehurst Police Recognized For Supporting Special Olympics | |

Pinehurst Police Department was presented an award today in Hickory NC at the state kickoff for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics 2014 campaign. The Pinehurst department was awarded the Gold Standard Award for making a difference in the lives of over 38,000 Special Olympics NC athletes during the 2012 campaign. During 2012 the department raised $26,500 for Special Olympics NC. Congratulations to the Pinehurst Department thank you for the difference you make. |

| Sheriff Reports West End Man Charged With Felony Cruelty To Animals & Possession Of Firearm By A Felon | |

Sheriff Lane Carter reports that on January 13, 2013 his office received a call from a residence off Cloverwood Lane from the West End area of Moore County. The caller advised that there was a disturbance in the area and shots had been fired. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the residence off Cloverwood Lane that the caller reported where disturbance was occurring. Deputies located the victim of an assault Kelvin Harris and several witnesses. Kelvin Harris reported that his brother Damon Harris had attempted to assault him with a golf club when his Pitt bull dog came between them. The Pit bull dog was struck with the golf club and shot by victim’s brother during the altercation. The Pit bull dog was dead when Deputies arrived and the suspect received medical treatment at First Health Emergency Room for dog bites sustained during the altercation. On January 13, 2013 Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Damon Saqawn Harris, a 21 year old male from 168 Cloverwood Lane, West End, N.C. Harris was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon and felony cruelty to animals. Harris received a $50,000.00 secured bond and was placed in the Moore County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 24, 2013 in Moore County District Court in Carthage, N.C. Also arrested was James Edward Gibson, a 25 year old male from 125 Ridgewood Drive, Southern Pines, N.C. Gibson was charged with accessory after the fact and received a $5,000.00 secured bond and was also placed in the Moore County Detention Center. His first court appearances is scheduled for January 24, 2013 in the Moore County District Court in Carthage N.C. |

| Building On Old Pinehurst Nursing Campus Burns To Ground Monday | |

An abandoned building on the old Pinehurst Nursing Home campus burned to the ground Monday morning. The fire on NC Highway 5 in Pinehurst was reported just before 8:00 AM Monday morning. When firefighters arrived the second floor of the structure was fully involved in flames. No one was injured in the fire this morning. The residential structure that burned was the former residence of the property owners and was a total loss as it burned to the ground. The nursing home no longer used any of the structures on this property after they moved just up the street to a location on Blake Blvd several years ago. The decision was made by fire officials to let the remains of the building burn to help remove possible hazards. Smoke may be visable in the area throughout the day Monday. Responding to the fire were units with the Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Crestline Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Seven Lakes Fire Department, and the Pinehurst Police Department. |

Southern Pines Plans Work To Weymouth Elevated Water Storage Tank |

The Town of Southern Pines has scheduled maintenance on one its elevated water storage facilities beginning Monday, January 14th. The Weymouth tank, located off of North Ridge Street between the Weymouth Center and Penick Village will be drained and therefore out of service for approximately two months while the work is to be completed. The interior of the tank, as well as the exterior of the tank, will be cleaned and re-painted as part of this scheduled maintenance. There may be periods of time that the Town’s water system could experience lower water pressures due to the tank being out of service.
